Rockvilla Goods – OO gauge.

April 4, 2014

A little gem of a layout hit the exhibition circuit last November at the Falkirk show. Rockvilla Goods (OO gauge) is the creation of Joe Loftus who is a member of the 12AD Model Railway Group. The layout is out and about on the Scottish circuit and is of Scottish flavour too – the Class 26 is a dead giveaway. It was photographed for BRM in the last week and the quality of the layout, which artfully fits a great deal of railway and structures into a small space, speaks for itself. It is distinctly urban and industrial without being too grimy!

Much of the rolling stock is kit-built with a good variety of heavily modified parcels vans too – very appealing indeed! Tall industrial buildings add drama to the scene. Particularly attractive is the modelling of the BR green to Rail blue transition. Joe has some part completed Rail blue parcels vans tucked away – unfortunately not complete enough to photograph, but not far off finished.

It’s a layout I thoroughly enjoyed photographing and my thanks to Joe, Bill and Spencer for their company at the weekend. Oh, as an aside, I left the slug out!

Sheet NMS-4 is not far off…

August 25, 2010

Whilst Sheet NMS-3 (BR Blue Grey Coaching Stock and Multiple Units) sits in UK Customs, we have received the proofs for Sheet NMS-4, a renumber pack for BR Large Logo Blue livery locomotives we hope to release soon. A sneaky preview is shown above and once we have seen a hard copy of the proofs, approval for printing will be given. Once again, we are keeping to the Nairnshire Modelling Supplies policy of adding as much to the sheet as possible so that you get the best possible value for money at £3.95 per sheet. The sheet will have the larger numbers, two styles of electrification warning notice, data panels and some large logos so the repaint enthusiasts will be able to use the sheet too.

If you are wondering about the Class 40 numbers included on this sheet, remember that there is a Class 40 currently painted in this livery, even though it is a heritage fictitious scheme: 40 145! Here’s afew shots of it on the Kyle line taken this April.

Blyth & District MRS Exhibition:
Nairnshire Modelling Supplies will be attending the Blyth & District Model Railway Society model railway exhibition this weekend: 28th & 29th August 2010.
At the Parks Sport Centre, North Shields, which is located close to the Royal Quays Shopping Centre on the A187, five minutes drive from the Tyne Tunnel.

Opening times:
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

We will have a good stock of Kadees, Phoenix Paints, Woodland Scenics, Springside lamps, S-kits, scale couplings from Smiths and Romford, solder, flux, tools, gear boxes, electronics, LEDs, transfers, adhesives, fillers, switches, BA screws, layout building materials, underlay foam, loco detailing parts, rolling stock detailing parts including 28 types of buffer from LMS and 9 types of sprung buffer from Markits – you get the picture – about 1000 product lines on one stand for modellers of all sizes, ages and tastes.

We also have a brand new GPRS terminal, so we will be able to accept credit and debit card transactions for the very first time at a show. As part of the same development, we are working on an e-terminal for the website too, which should be complete and active in a couple of weeks. This will offer an alternative payment method to PayPal. In the meantime, see you in North Shields!

Nairnshire Modelling Supplies news

March 19, 2010

The latest stocks of Woodland Scenics have arrived at Nairnshire Modelling Supplies and work has now started on listing them on the Nairnshire Modelling Supplies web site. That’s a lot of photography to get through as there are about 45 new product lines to add; bringing the total number of product lines to over 650. With the continued (and very much appreciated) support we are enjoying from a growing customer base, we will add to the Woodland Scenics range if support for that area is forthcoming! Also added to the range are the Hob e Lube products including ‘moly’ grease and gear lube.

It’s all part of our mission to provide those products which are increasingly hard to buy at local model shops; stocking the invaluable materials that the ‘box shifters’ simply do not. In recent months, we have grown the Kadee range, expanded the Phoenix Paints we can supply and have now added some of the US outline HO scale trucks and wheels from the Kadee range after requests from US-outline modellers. If US outline modellers continue to approach us, we will expand what we stock and will also look at other things which are otherwise hard to find. Currently, negotiations with various suppliers are in progress to add new things from abroad to the range and also our third NMS transfer sheet is nearly at proofing stage too. It all adds up to an interesting time here and we will get as much on-line as we can!

Woodland Scenics arrives at Nairnshire Modelling Supplies

February 17, 2010

As part of our plan to expand the range of products at Nairnshire Modelling Supplies, we have become official stockists of Woodland Scenics. This is in addition to our other recent developments in bringing in Kadee Couplings, developing our own transfers, adding Phoenix Paints to the range and expanding the number of Carr’s products we stock. The idea is to offer the broadest range of general modelling materials we possibly can which should appeal to most modellers, from N gauge to O gauge. The Woodland Scenics range will be added to the web site as soon as we have cleared the Model Rail show.

Preparation for the big Model Rail show at the SEC is now well in hand with the development of these ranges. From what we can tell from the hall plan, we will be on the left hand side of the hall, half way down on stand 23. It should be a really packed stand will all sorts of goodies, so if you are looking for any of the following:

Woodland Scenics, Kadee couplers, Kadee magnets, Phoenix Paints including the weathering and steam era colours, Phoenix Paints masking tape, thinners, primer and other support products, electronics including components for DCC such as ‘Scotchlok’ connectors, cable and LEDs, Carr’s, C&L products, glues, adhesives, solvents, high quality hand tools, our own transfers, HMRS transfers, S-Kits, Springside, Xuron, Markits, Mashima motors…the list of what we stock is becoming pretty vast. We will squeeze it all onto the stand – I hope! Look out for our bright blue signs.

With the addition of Kadees to the range, we are now receiving many more enquiries from US-outline modellers to stock products to support their modelling activities. We know from our own modelling activities how difficult it is to buy certain items here in the UK, so this is something Sarah and I are giving careful consideration to. We will look at those things that can be used by British and European outline modellers as well so to have universal appeal, certainly at the start to see how much support there really is.

More Kadee products for Nairnshire Modelling Supplies have arrived.

February 3, 2010

Another big box of Kadee quality products has arrived – a box full of stuff which will further strengthen our stocking levels and introduce new items to the range. Customer requests have included whisker couplers and we will be stocking #146 and #148 to start in response. Also included in this order are #309 hidden electromagnet un-couplers, the ever useful #241 Kadee dual tool and the excellent #236 ‘Speedi’ loco wheel cleaner, one of the best of this type we have seen.

All of the new items are now listed on the Nairnshire Modelling Supplies web site! Remember, Kadees are the best couplers in the world and have been around for many years; a proven design made in the USA!

Kadees have arrived at Nairnshire Modelling Supplies.

December 2, 2009

The first batch of Kadees are here and listed on the Nairnshire Modelling Supplies web site. Look for KADEE COUPLERS in the drop down menu.

Currently in stock: No. 5, No.17-20 Euro NEM couplers and No.46 all-metal long shank couplers together with spares, height gauges, Greas-em and springs. There will be more ordered including bulk packs as we get this range established. They will be available at this weekend’s Darlington show where Sarah and I will be attending with the full NMS trade stand.

Nairnshire Modelling Supplies…growing all the time. Now it’s Kadees and paints.

November 23, 2009

Nairnshire Modelling Supplies is now an authorised dealer for Kadee couplers. The first stocks are on their way from the US at this time. They will be listed on the web site as soon as they arrive. We doubt they will be with us in time for this weekend’s Falkirk show which we will be attending with the stand. However, it is likely that our new to NMS range of Phoenix Precision paints and finishing products will be – if the delivery arrives on time!
